Entertainment

Entertainment-wise – don’t expect it to be London – but considering our size, we are remarkably lucky.

Douglas

We are blessed with a stunning ‘Matcham’ Theatre called the Gaiety Theatre and Opera House. It’s astonishingly well preserved to the point where it has regularly been used as a film set. Zac Efron’s ‘Me and Orson Wells’ was largely filmed there.

We also have the Royal Hall – in the Villa Marina which has a capacity of around 1600 and regularly hosts gigs and other events. It’s a stunning venue with a great atmosphere on gig nights – although I regret it’s all too frequently let down by the quality of the sound.

You can see what’s on at VillaGaiety here.

Douglas also hosts Kensington Arts, Studio Theatre at Ballakermeen Theatre as well as the Palace Cinema.

Out of Town

Notable venues out of town include the Centenary Centre in Peel and the Erin Arts Centre in Port Erin.

There is also plenty of live music in pubs in Douglas and around the Island.
